IHC Sea Steel’s new larger capacity 96” FAST FRAME (96FF) has, in record time, completed the installation of 8-No. 84” diameter FPSO mooring piles on the OMV Maari Project,  offshore New Zealand.
During the engineering phase, 2-No. 84” diameter mid-water arch piles were added to the workscope and these were installed at the same time. The Frame weighs 125 Tonnes.

2-No. standard 84” pile upending tools were hired to efficiently upend and deploy the piles to the 96FF, the Frame accurately orientated the heading of the piles well within the required tolerances.

IHC Sea Steel are pleased to announce the successful completion of the 9- No, 84″ diameter piles for the Ettrick project on behalf of Nexen. The work was undertaken by Saipem using vessel “Edda Fjord” and the 125 Tonne 84″ FAST FRAME with extensions. The 84FF and 50m long piles were deployed to seabed by the “Saipem 7000″ earlier. By using this strategy a nominal sized low cost vessel was used to drive the piles on what was a particularly large mooring system. Allowing for some downtime due to weather the piles were effectively driven at more than one a day without incident.

The piles were driven on behalf of Aker Marine Contractors, through the 84FFX using a Menck MHU500. The heading and verticality was achieved within 0.5 deg. of the designed. The intermediate hard sand layers made the tasks “very interesting and challenging to say the least”.
